The reports conclude the long-term work carried out looking at causes and mitigation.

BMRA has published a series of reports that concludes a year-long investigation into the main causes of fires at metal recycling facilities; methods member companies employ to reduce the risk of fires at their facilities and fire-fighting techniques they employ when a fire occurs.

A total of four reports, produced by SLR Consulting Ltd on behalf of BMRA, conclude with some practical recommendations that members can use to help them focus on important aspects to consider when drafting their Fire Prevention Plans or reviewing existing fire management procedures. The final report considers the benefits of the sector undertaking fire trials.

BMRA will be sharing these reports with the Environment Agency to advance earlier discussions to agree sector-specific guidance. The aim of this guidance would be to identify alternative measures, acceptable to the EA (and hopefully NI-EHS, NRW and  SEPA), to those set-out in current FPP guidance. For further information, please contact Howard.
