Direct Stoves has launched a new nationwide scrappage scheme in a bid to help improve air quality.

The scheme allows customers to earn money back against new, more eco-friendly stoves when they scrap their current one in order to meet upcoming legislation, the Ecodesign Directive, in 2022. The Directive is being introduced to ensure that all new stoves meet stricter emission tests. Many of the stoves included in the scrappage scheme are also DEFRA-approved so they can be used in smoke control areas around the country.

In order to take advantage of the scheme, customers must take their old stove to a member of the British Metal Recycling Association (BMRA). Upon presenting proof of scrappage signed by the BMRA member, they will be eligible for 10% cashback on their new stove. Customers are instructed find their nearest member by using the directory on the BMRA website.

Adam Leah, Managing Director of Direct Stoves, said: “There has already been a lot of talk around the emissions produced by wood burners over recent months, and that is set to intensify as the Ecodesign Directive gets closer. By 2022, all new stoves will need to meet these emission targets, and we want to help our customers be kinder to the environment in advance of that while also have the opportunity to save some money.”
