Over £3,000 raised so far

Joe Wakefield, Managing Director of BMRA member, Crow Metals has raised over £3,000 to support two brothers, George and Billy, who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Originally diagnosed when they were aged two and three, the men are now 23 and 24. They initially required manual wheelchairs and electric scooters but have since transferred to electric wheelchairs when they could no longer walk.

DMD is a genetic disorder which is characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to the alterations of a protein called dystrophin that helps keep muscle cells intact.

George and Billy both attended Southview School in Essex for Physically and Neurologically Impaired (PNI) children, where they were very popular and helped other children in wheelchairs.

Due to the progression of their disability, George and Billy now have a live-in carer, need assistance when leaving the house and machines to help their breathing when asleep at night

Joe said: “These boys are very caring and I would like to help them in any way I can. The donations will go directly to the boys, and they will be able to use it in any way to help support them”.

Joe completed the race in a time of 1hour 55 mins.
