The BMRA works closely with British Transport Police, local and national police services, local authorities as well as a wide range of other organisations to tackle metal theft and the issue of illegal traders. For example, we sit on the Metal Theft Working Group, send out metal theft alerts and run a dedicated email account for people to report cash buyers.

Please note: Due to the likelihood of smaller quantities being hidden in larger loads, unless items are clearly identifiable, we tend only to send out alerts that involved sizable quantities, and we cannot issue alerts for individual cars. We also advise that reports should be made as soon as possible. We do not tend to issue alerts relating to thefts that are over a week old.
