Following a decision by Government that a conditional exemption for dealers who inadvertently receive radioactive material is not viable, the Environment Agency (EA) is now looking to permit operators under a new category of authorisation in line with the the Basic Safety Standards Directive (BSSD), due to be implemented in February 2018. The proposals would see operators requiring one permit per business not per site.
Given the consultation process on the permiting changes has now been launched, BMRA has convened a meeting with representatives of the EA to better inform our response. If you would like to submit your views, please contact Sam.
