BMRA member E H Hassell & Sons was one of two companies who supplied the BBC’s Top Gear programme with material handling equipment to enable the show’s presenters to play bowling… with scrap.

While presenter Ross Noble was in the Sennebogen 830 M material handler organised by Hassells, Matt Le Blanc had Terrex Fuchs MHL 360. Having undertaken brief familiarisation lessons, the presenters were each tasked with using scrap picked up with the grabs, which included washing machines, bath tubs, jet skis and cars, to knock down wooden sheds.

While Noble looked like he was a sure winner, Le Blanc stole the final moment with a bit of ‘double-dropping’. Nevertheless, after filming ended Noble was presented with his very own Sennebogen hard hat.

The episode featuring the materials handlers was on broadcast on Sunday 16 April and can currently still be viewed through the iPlayer for those who have a TV licence.
