Decarbonisation and promoting the environmental credentials

The Sustainability Committee is the British Metals Recycling Association’s dedicated committee for identifying best practice in decarbonisation and promoting the environmental credentials of the metals recycling industry.

The Committee played an integral role in the launch of BMRA’s Sustainability Hub, offering a single place to measure emissions, identify emission hotspots, learn and implement carbon reduction methods, and access carbon offsetting.

It also supported and advised on the launch of BMRA’s bespoke emissions calculator, allowing members to measure their scope 1 and 2 emissions.

The Committee’s work now turns to the creation of create a net zero strategy for the UK metals recycling industry. This will include an emissions assessment, an emission reduction roadmap and a policy report, all of which require scrutiny for professionals within the industry.

As a member of the Sustainability Committee, chaired by Mike Hogan (EMR), you can expect to attend three to four meetings each year which will either take place virtually or at the BMRA HQ in Huntingdon. All is required – in addition to your attendance – is a passion for promoting the environmental benefits of metals recycling and supporting industry decarbonisation wherever pragmatically possible.
