Operators asked to review procedures and ensure they remain compliant

Further to extensive coverage in Scrapbook and FRAGments on the waste classification of WEEE and certain WEEE outputs, the Environment Agency has now published updated guidance on how operators should regard these wastes.

In a letter sent to over 1,000 operators of WEEE recycling facilities, household waste recycling centres and the re-use network, the Agency requests that operators review their procedures and ensure they remain compliant, and in particular regarding how WEEE and certain WEEE outputs – such as cables, printed circuit boards, and plastic components – should be classified in relation to hazardous waste and POPS waste criteria.
