900kg of copper wire

Items stolen: Some 900kg of copper wire

Details: Three thieves wearing facemasks and hoodies forced access to the WPD Torquay depot supported by a light coloured long wheel

base Ford Transit (vehicle registration number was obscured). They accessed an inner compound and forced entry into a secure shipping container used for storing copper cable.
 
In total, they stole nine 250-metre full drums and one part drum of overhead bare wire copper cable also known as Hard Drawn Copper. (See image below).

  • The total weight, excluding the wooden drums, is about 900 kg
  • The total length (9 x 250 plus part drum) is circa 2400 metres.
  • There were four different diameters ranging from 5.6 mm – 10.65mm.
