18 March 2024

Don't forget, Monday 18 is Global Recycling Day.

We are sure many of you have plans to mark the day, but should you need an idea or want to get involved, why not highlight the amazing and enormous savings that are achieved by recycling metal.

What will you save?

BMRA has created a graphic highlighting five themes for where savings are and can be made when you recycle your metal:

  • Energy – recycling steel uses 70% less energy than mining and refining virgin ore
  • Emissions – recycling metal emits 80% less CO₂ than production from raw materials.
  • Habitats – recycling one tonne of steel can save one and a half tonnes of iron ore being mined protecting natural habitats and woodland
  • Resources – recycling steel saves 40% of water and 0.5 tonnes of coal per tonne, saving resources
  • Money – you can be paid for your scrap metal, so why not save for that holiday or raise some money for charity

Whether it's a video or a picture or a written post, it would be fantastic for you to get involved in some way.
