Can your employees work safely?

Members are advised that Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors are making spot-check telephone calls to make sure businesses are COVID-secure. BMRA has already received such a call.

To be COVID-19 Secure, a business should have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and has taken all reasonable steps to ensure employees can work safely in a COVID-19 secure workplace or at home. Measures businesses should have introduced include: appropriate social distancing requirements; an enhanced cleaning regime; and, support for handwashing and hygiene procedures.

As part of the checks, HSE may offer advice and guidance to manage risk and protect employees, customers and visitors to a yard. HSE states that where businesses are not enabling a COVID-19 Secure workplace, it will take immediate action which may include enforcement.

Members are reminded that if they a called by the HSE, they are required under health and safety legislation to engage with them.
