BMRA is the only Trade Association in the UK representing all types of metal recyclers including ATFs and car dismantlers

The BMRA is an experienced team of industry experts who offer advice on technical, environmental, regulatory, and legislative issues.

It has a number of ELV specialists already in membership who are benefitting from the Associations lobbying efforts and strong established relationships within the Environment Agency, Defra, police services, local authorities, and other relevant organisations.

Key issues that BMRA lobbies for include:

  • Strengthened enforcement of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act (SMDA) 2013 and action against illegal operators.
  • The addressing illegal exports and the leakage of ELVs and vehicle parts to protect the legitimate ELV sector.

Thanks to its strong ties and membership of Recycling Europe (formerly EuRIC), BMRA is collaborating with European colleagues on the new ELV Regulation, advocating for practical and workable requirements for all participants in the ELV value chain.

BMRA is also engaging in ongoing discussions with key EA and Defra representatives about the future of ELV dismantling and treatment standards, especially within broader Circular Economy reforms and potential updates to existing controls.
