BMRA service member Blaker Engineering, part of the Blaker Group, is currently manufacturing a bespoke hopper fitted with a heavy-duty metering chain conveyor for a client’s processing plant.

The system has been purpose-built to integrate seamlessly within the site’s existing layout and is engineered to deliver measurable commercial gains through improved feed control, durability and long-term operational performance.

A comprehensive on-site evaluation preceded the project, which was essential for an investment of this scale.

During the initial phase, the Blaker team visited the plant to assess key operational factors including material flow, loader patterns, throughput targets, and footprint constraints. This detailed evaluation enabled the engineering team to design the system specifically around the site’s requirements, ensuring both optimal performance and smooth integration into the existing processing line.

Once installed, the bespoke solution is expected to deliver improved loader efficiency, stable throughput and more predictable output. In addition, the robust chain metering system will support lower maintenance requirements and reduce the overall cost per tonne of material processed.

During discussions with the client, the long-term value of the chain metering approach became clear. While alternative feed systems may reduce the initial capital outlay, the lifecycle return, durability and operational control offered by a chain metering solution made it the more commercially responsible choice for the site. The project highlights the importance of selecting the right feed system at the front end of a processing line, as it ultimately influences the efficiency and profitability of the entire operation.

Blaker Engineering is now in the final stages prior to commissioning and looks forward to seeing the improvement in operational performance once the system goes live.
