Supporting the metals recycling industry in the UK

Paul Mayhew of MBA Polymers, EPRB Vice-President
Susie Burrage of Recycled Products Ltd and BMRA President, EUROMETREC
Howard Bluck of BMRA, EFR Branch Vice-President.

Representatives from the BMRA Board, Secretariat and membership have been reelected to board positions of EuRIC branches pertinent to the metals recycling industry in the UK.

Susie Burrage, MD of Recycled Products Ltd and President of the BMRA, was reelected President of EUROMETREC, the European Metal Trade and Recycling Federation.

Driven by the high-value of metals, EUROMETREC members continue this activity using state of the art techniques, and improve continuously the quality and quantity of recycled non-ferrous secondary metals.

BMRA’s Technical Director, Howard Bluck, was reelected as the European Ferrous Recovery and Recycling Branch (EFR) Vice-President. The aim of the branch is promoting the recycling of waste containing ferrous metals, as well as the high environmental benefits associated to it.

Paul Mayhew, General Manager at MBA Polymers was elected as Vice-President of the European Plastics Recycling Branch. Its aim is to promote the recycling of different types of plastics as well as its industrial and environmental benefits in terms of CO2 and energy savings.

Howard Bluck said: “It is critically important that the BMRA is a member and has leadership positions within EuRIC. This is to help shape the future strategy of metals recycling in UK and Europe as well as the strategy of residual material involved in metal recycling such as durable plastic.”

EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries’ Confederation, of which BMRA is a member, is the umbrella organisation for recycling industries.

Through its Member Federations from 21 EU&EFTA countries, EuRIC represents across Europe over:

  • 5,500+ companies generating an aggregated annual turnover of about 95 billion €, including large companies and SMEs, involved in the recycling and trade of various resource streams;
  • 300,000 local jobs which cannot be outsourced to third EU countries;
  • Million tons of waste recycled per year (metals, paper, glass, plastics, textiles, tyres and beyond);

By turning wastes into resources, recycling is the link which reintroduces recycled materials into the value chains again and again. Recyclers play a key role in bridging resource efficiency, climate change policy and industrial transition.
