The BMRA's Metals Recycling Fire Prevention Sector Specific Guidance has been designed to help BMRA members develop their fire prevention plans (FPP) by considering approaches and techniques that apply to the majority of metals recycling facilities, with practical examples of how site layout, infrastructure, and fire management provisions can mitigate fire risk. This is in accordance with requirements set out in the Environment Agency’s permitting regime

The Guidance also provides information on specific techniques to consider based on the activities and materials processed by your facilities.

Written for the wide range of operator sizes and site sizes found across the sector, the Guidance reflects the particular waste types and operations found across the metals recycling sector. This includes appendices which provide more detailed information on specific materials and activities, including:

  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
  • End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV)
  • Waste not covered by the EA’s FPP Guidance:
    • Batteries
    • Cylinders
  • Dockside storage

The Guidance, available as a printed copy and digitally, is only be available to members of the BMRA.
