Walk from West Sussex to BMRA HQ in aid of Mind

Craig Walsh of BMRA member, Charles Muddle Ltd, is doing some serious training.

He and his team of fundraisers, ‘Walking With Scrap In Mind!’, aim to walk the 100+ miles from Charles Muddle Ltd in Adversane, West Sussex on the 24 May 2024 to BMRA HQ in Huntingdon by dusk on 26 May 2024.

Craig is raising money for a cause very close to his heart, the mental health charity, Mind. He even hopes to collect a bit of scrap metal for recycling along the way!

He will be joined on his route at various points by his fellow Young British Metals Recyclers, Charlotte Robinson of ELG, Hayley Mellor of Mellor Metals, Tom Higginbottom of Bunting, Roman Drew of Truro Recycling, Mitchell Garner of Sims Metal and Cameron Leitch of the BMRA.

Of his challenge, Craig said: “We in the recycling industry are all connected to make the world a better place by what we do on a day-to-day basis. Mental health is such a massive thing at the moment and as someone that has suffered and used many outlets to help me, it's only fitting I give something back. Combining fundraising and recycling is a great combo in my eyes.

“I am very grateful and overwhelmed from the donations that have been received so far. If people would like to donate, please follow the link or use the QR code. No matter the size of the donation we would all be grateful. If you want to join in from start to finish or even do a section, please drop me a message; the more the merrier!

“We are looking for sponsors too if people and businesses would like to get on board to support this great cause. Get in touch to promote your business. The more traction this gains the wider an audience it will attract. A win win for all!”

About Young British Metals Recyclers

The Young British Metals Recyclers (YBMR) is open to any job role, be it on the yard, on the road, in the office, or in the lab. YBMR gives members a platform to enhance their own development in the metals industry. Opportunities include building customer relationships and training. YBMR also offers plenty of social activities that enable members to build their professional network within the industry.

The YBMR:

  • Encourages participation in BMRA and YBMR activities by industry colleagues under the age of 40.
  • Identifies purposeful and educational  activities that assist members  of the YBMR in their own careers.
  • Provides networking opportunities to build a network within membership and the wider metals recycling industry.

YBMR members have enjoyed a number of visits to different organisations within the metal sector giving insight into the wider industry. We also organise fun social opportunities, such as a day at the races!
