Victoria Horner, Contracts Manager Metals and WEEE at Ward
I have applied for the opportunity as Co-Chair of the YBMR because I strongly believe we operate in an industry that is constantly evolving. With that comes the need for engaged, forward-thinking individuals who can help shape its future. The YBMR provides an excellent platform for young professionals to share ideas, drive innovation, discuss challenges, and contribute positively to the direction of the industry.

In my day-to-day role, I adopt a transformational leadership approach, with a strong focus on supporting the growth and success of my peers and colleagues. I would bring that same commitment to the YBMR – creating an environment where individuals feel empowered to contribute, develop, and succeed.

My key priorities as Co-Chair would be to increase engagement across the under-40 demographic within the industry – not only through events but also by encouraging active participation in discussion groups. These forums would provide opportunities to share ideas, address common challenges, and collaborate on practical solutions that benefit the wider industry.

I am also passionate about supporting the development of new members joining the YBMR. By sharing experiences, insights, and guidance, I aim to help individuals grow and excel in their careers – whether in commercial, operational, or leadership roles.

Jamie Charlotte Moore, Commercial Buyer at EMR
My vision for the Young British Metals Association is a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking network that empowers early-career professionals to shape the future of the metals industry. Success would be reflected in strong membership growth, meaningful industry influence, and the creation of clear pathways for professional development, innovation, and leadership.

As co-chair, my leadership style would be collaborative, transparent, and proactive. I believe in creating an environment where all voices are heard, encouraging open dialogue, and supporting others to take initiative. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, I am particularly committed to championing diversity and inclusion, ensuring underrepresented voices are visible, supported, and encouraged to lead. It is so important to show that females can progress and be successful in such an environment. I would aim to lead by example, balancing strategic direction with approachability and responsiveness.

Key priorities for YBMR would include expanding networking opportunities, enhancing skills development through workshops and mentoring, and strengthening links between industry and education. I would also prioritise promoting sustainability and innovation within the metals sector, while actively supporting initiatives that attract and retain diverse talent.

My approach to member engagement would focus on active communication and inclusivity. I would encourage regular feedback, create opportunities for collaboration across regions and disciplines, and utilise both in-person and digital platforms to maintain strong connections. Ultimately, the goal is to build a community where members feel supported, represented, and motivated to contribute.

Harry Hudson, Commercial Manager at EMR
My vision for the Young British Metal Recyclers Association is to create a stronger, more visible network that encourages young professionals to see metal recycling as an exciting and rewarding career path. Success would mean greater engagement from younger members, improved industry awareness, and stronger pathways for attracting new talent into the sector.

My leadership style is collaborative, approachable, and supportive. In my current role, I commercially manage the Midlands region for EMR and lead a team of six people, which has strengthened my ability to support, motivate, and develop individuals while delivering results. I believe strong leadership comes from listening to others, encouraging participation, and ensuring all voices are heard. I enjoy mentoring and developing young talent, which I have experienced first-hand through supporting a 23-year-old apprentice within my team at EMR.

My key priorities for YBMR would be increasing awareness of careers in metal recycling, improving opportunities for networking and professional development, and helping younger members feel represented within the industry. Many people enter the sector by chance rather than intention, which highlights the need to promote the industry more effectively.

I would approach member engagement through open communication, collaboration, and creating opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and contribute ideas. By working together, YBMR can build a stronger community that supports and develops the future of the industry.

Connor D’Arcy, Head of Partnerships & Growth at ScrapBays
I'm Connor D'Arcy, Head of Growth & Partnerships at ScrapBays, a digital marketplace modernising how scrap metal is traded across the UK. I'm standing for YBMR Co-Chair because I believe the committee has a real opportunity to become a more inclusive and accessible network for the next generation of the industry.

My vision is simple: a YBMR where a 19-year-old on a weighbridge feels as represented as a director’s son entering the family business. Over the next 12 months, that means driving measurable engagement at yard-level, communicating clearer career pathways, and delivering events that attract people who haven’t previously seen YBMR as relevant to them.

While many candidates come from merchant or yard backgrounds, my position offers a different perspective. I work across the full ecosystem, from family-run yards to enterprise organisations, and regularly engage with the people building careers on the ground right through to business owners.

My focus is on broadening the member base, creating a programme that reflects the full industry, and strengthening the link between YBMR and BMRA. As Co-Chair, I’ll be collaborative, action-oriented, and focused on delivery.

Charlotte Robinson, Trader at Cronimet (GB) Ltd
I see the YBMR not just as a committee, but as a catalyst – as a vibe – one that turns ideas into action and members into a connected, confident community. Success, to me, looks like a group where every voice is heard, participation is high, and outcomes are tangible: meaningful events, strong networks, and clear impact.

As co-chair, I would lead with clarity and collaboration. I’m not interested in hierarchy or titles for their own sake – I focus on empowering others, setting direction, and making sure we follow through. I listen first, act decisively, and make sure we’re always moving forward while having a bit of fun along the way.

My key priorities would be strengthening member value, increasing visibility, and ensuring consistency in delivery. That means relevant programming, accessible opportunities, and a clear sense of purpose in everything we do.

When it comes to engagement, I’m all about creating space for everyone to have a voice, whether that’s through relaxed catch-ups, group idea sessions, or just making it easy to jump in. The goal is simple: build a team where everyone feels included, involved, and excited to contribute.
That’s the kind of YBMR I want to help lead.

Bethany Mason, Operations Manager at Global Ardour Recycling Ltd
Having spent the past eight years in an operational role managing a large shredder site, I have first-hand experience of the challenges facing our industry, from evolving waste and export legislation to the rise in lithium battery fires and ongoing recruitment pressures. This gives me a practical understanding of the issues our members face.

Despite these challenges, I am lucky enough to experience for myself on a daily basis what makes our industry so unique. We are surrounded by people who roll up their sleeves, take a hands-on approach to problem-solving, and above all – people who seriously graft.

As co-chair, my leadership style would be inclusive and proactive. I am committed to ensuring all voices are represented, particularly those in operational roles, while also encouraging greater diversity of backgrounds, especially encouraging more women into the sector. I believe this can be achieved through stronger face-to-face engagement, creating opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and step beyond their day-to-day roles.

I am proud to work in metal recycling and would welcome the opportunity to help build a more engaged network that reflects the energy of our industry and supports the next generation.

Ben Hirst, Commercial Director at N2S
I believe I am well suited to the YBMR Co-Chair role because I bring both practical industry experience and a clear vision for growth. Success, to me, looks like a committee that actively engages younger people, increases awareness of opportunities within metal recycling, and consistently grows its membership and mailing list year-on-year.

My leadership style is collaborative and structured. I value working as a team, ensuring that we align on shared objectives and maintain focus to deliver meaningful outcomes. Having worked across different levels of the industry, from yard operations upwards, I can relate to a wide range of perspectives and help facilitate discussions that are relevant and valuable to all.

A key priority for YBMR should be challenging the misconception that metal recycling is a dead-end career. This sector offers significant opportunities, and attracting the next generation is essential to drive innovation and long-term growth in the UK.

In terms of engagement, I am approachable and proactive. I would encourage regular interaction with members, be available to offer guidance where I can add value, and advocate for quarterly feedback to ensure the committee remains aligned with what members want and need.
