Decarbonises material handling processes

BMRA member, EMR, has further invested in its sustainable infrastructure with the order of JCB electric teletrucks.

The vehicles will assist in reducing the carbon intensity of EMR’s material handling operations and, in addition to removing the need for fossil fuels, their innovative design offers a range of benefits to the business.

The JCB 35-22e teletrucks can operate for up to eight hours with 80 percent battery charge. Meanwhile, the new vehicles’ 360˚ visibility and single level control will ensure EMR’s reputation for safety is further enhanced.

This investment is part of EMR’s Our Decade of Action strategy which will see all of EMR’s sites become net-zero for indirect emissions (Scope 2) by 2030.

The purchase is the latest in a number of landmark investments in the electrification of EMR’s processes as it strives to become a carbon neutral business. This includes the arrival of a huge Sennebogen 895e Hybrid material handler at EMR’s Liverpool Alexandra Docks site and the installation of a hybrid crane at EMR’s Nijmegen site in the Netherlands. Both of which can operate without the use of fossil fuels.

Ian Sheppard, Managing Director of Metal Recycling at EMR

Ian Sheppard, Managing Director of Metal Recycling at EMR said: “EMR’s order of these teletrucks is another significant stepping stone on our company’s journey towards net-zero. In less than 10 years, we will have fully decarbonised our operations (Scope 1 and 2) and JCB’s innovative technology highlights that this investment in sustainability will also have benefits across our business, whether that’s by improving the safety of our staff or the efficiency of our processes.

“EMR’s continued investment in zero carbon, sustainable and nature-positive technology is a clear sign that our business is ready for change.”
