It is with a heavy heart that the BMRA bids a fond farewell to Policy and Sustainability Manager, Cameron Leitch.
Cameron joined the BMRA in April 2022 as Policy Executive. It’s fair to say he hit the ground running, supporting Antonia in all aspects of policy and public affairs work.
In 2024, he took on additional responsibilities and added sustainability to his role.
Cameron oversaw the production of BMRA’s An Agenda for Change and project managed two key reports published by the BMRA. The UK metals recycling industry’s emissions assessment (Roadmap to Net Zero) and an economic impact analysis of scrap steel exports. He was also a coauthor and main project manager for Tackling Metal Theft: A report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Metal, Stone and Heritage Crime.
Cameron oversaw the launch of the Sustainability Hub as BMRA Secretariat lead of the Carbon Action Committee, including the flagship sector-specific Carbon Calculator.
In 2025, he joined the Bureau of International Recycling’s (BIR) Environmental Benefits of Recycling Study Steering Committee, advising KPMG on the structure and curation of BIR’s updated Environmental Benefits of Recycling paper.
He also participated in the International Environmental Council’s plenary session at the BIR’s World Recycling Convention and Exhibition in Valencia to discuss the importance of metals recycling.
He was the Secretariat lead of the Young British Metals Recyclers (YBMR),
which now has over 100 members, and he also organised two YBMR conferences.
Having spoken at key industry events, he was a well-known face both within metals recycling and the wider recycling world. He was named in Lets Recycle’s 35 Under 35 twice. He will be sorely missed by the Secretariat, who will miss the daily playing of Heardle and answering his quiz questions, and members alike, particularly those he has worked closely with these past four years.
We thank him for his amazing work and wish him all the best in his next role of Policy and Public Affairs Manager at PAGB, the consumer healthcare association.
