Join the Legislative Policy Group

As part of BMRA’s continued commitment to reflecting the full range of views, experiences, and concerns of its membership, we invite member companies to express interest in joining the Legislative Policy Group (LPG).

Purpose of the Legislative Policy Group
The LPG provides strategic advice and guidance on environmental and legislative matters affecting the metals recycling industry. Operating under the direction of the BMRA Board through the Technical Director, the Group plays a key role in shaping BMRA’s policy positions and influencing regulatory developments at both the national and international levels.

Role and Responsibilities
Members of the LPG will contribute to:

  • Assessing and advising on environmental and legislative issues relevant to the sector (excluding health, safety, and training).
  • Identifying emerging UK and international legislation affecting metals recycling and supporting BMRA’s proactive engagement with policymakers and regulators.
  • Supporting and contributing to the work of aligned organisations, including the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Recycling Europe, and the UK Metals Council.
  • Participating in a minimum of three meetings per year, with additional meetings or focused subgroups convened as required. Core meetings will be held on a 50:50 basis between online and in-person sessions at the BMRA offices in Huntingdon.

Who Should Apply
BMRA is seeking individuals with strong environmental and/or legislative expertise and strategic insight to join the Group. Suitable candidates may include:

  • Environmental or compliance managers
  • Sustainability, regulatory, or technical directors
  • Company directors with relevant environmental or legislative experience

To ensure balanced representation across the membership, smaller company representatives (Categories A-D) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Appointments will be made to ensure the Group reflects a broad cross-section of BMRA member companies and areas of expertise.
