BMRA is delighted to announce that its sponsored Guide Dog puppy has been born and named. After a poll by BMRA members, the black Labrador, born on 6 April 2025, has been named Rusty. Rusty, whose parents are called Stan and Lulu, has seven siblings.

His parents were selected because of their great temperaments and for having the right characteristics needed to produce the next generation of life-changing puppies.

Mandy Loveder, Community Fundraising Manager, Central Team - Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk at Guide Dogs said: “We are sure you will agree that he is adorable. Rusty has a big future ahead of him, filled with fun, excitement, and new adventures. Rusty is settling well with his Puppy Raiser. You can expect to receive Rusty’s first ‘pupdate’ in around three months’ time.”

BMRA President, Susie Burrage OBE, said of the naming: “I am delighted to welcome Rusty into the BMRA family. Black Labradors are my favourite dog breed and as you can see from his first pawtrait, he is an absolute smasher! I am sure, with his excellent breeding, Rusty will go on to be a wonderful companion and help a person with sight loss live the life they choose. Thanks to members who donated prizes and who took part in our raffles and auctions that has enabled us to support our 2024 charity, Guide Dogs, in such a life-changing way.”

Thanks to all BMRA members who were involved with the naming and look out for ‘pupdates’ on Rusty’s progress over the coming year.
