An alert from BMRA member, Gibbs

Attention to all in the scrap metal industry and surrounding communities. We've been experiencing a concerning trend of scrap metal bin thefts in the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk areas recently, and it's crucial we all stay vigilant.

Sadly, our own operations have fallen victim to this trend. We've observed multiple instances of scrap metal bins disappearing, likely stolen for their valuable contents or the bins themselves, due to the ever-increasing price of new containers. It's a frustrating setback for us, and, from what we've heard, many of our industry friends are facing the same fate.

We want to highlight a specific vehicle involved in these thefts: a white Volvo hook loader with a magnetic "GIBBS" sign displayed on the side of their vehicle. If they are trying to replicate ours, I'm sure they'll have no issues doing the same to our industry friends.

The vehicle has a single orange beacon on the top of the cab. The lorry is more than likely has false numberplates, as it appears to be registered as a different but similar vehicle and is taxed and insured. The numberplate begins AY and is available on Gibbs social media.

If you spot this vehicle in suspicious circumstances, please report it immediately to the authorities. Together, we can help prevent further thefts and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

We understand the impact these thefts can have on our customers and communities. Not only does it result in financial losses, but it also disrupts our operations and compromises our efforts towards sustainability and responsible scrap metal management.

Let's remain vigilant and support each other in keeping our businesses and communities safe. If you have any information regarding these thefts or notice any suspicious activity, please don't hesitate to reach out.
