Digital Waste Tracking (DWT) is about to fundamentally change how metal recyclers (and all waste operators) move, record and report waste. It will require all businesses, including those currently ‘offline’ or using paper-based systems, to record and report waste movements digitally.
It will replace paper-based waste transfer notes (WTNs) with a central digitalised system. It records waste movements from the moment a consignment of scrap is created and the first digital WTN is issued, to the point it is either destroyed, transformed or exported.
The goal is to reduce waste crime and improve traceability across the sector. It should also be easier for regulators to audit sites remotely.
With so many points for the metals recyclers to consider, BMRA has produced a one-stop guide to help members to navigate DWT and the necessary changes.
