Update on China's intention over waste imports, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

BMRA has received confirmation from BIR that China has notified the World Trade Organisation of its intention to introduce control standards, including impurity thresholds, for a number of wastes.

Relevant materials and thresholds include smelt slag (0.5%), ferrous (0.5%), non-ferrous (1%), waste electronic motors (0.5%), wires and cables (0.5%), metal and appliance scrap (0.5%), plastic (0.5%) and autos (0.3%).

We understand these will be adopted on 31 December 2017 with a proposed date for entry into force of 1 March 2018. BMRA continues to monitor the situation and is working closely with colleagues at BIR and EuRIC to ensure concerns over the practicalities of meeting these thresholds are properly heard.

We will of course keep members up-to-date as this issue continues to evolve. In the meantime, please contact Howard for or call 01480 455 249.
